This will require a lot of positives to get over

I am shocked and appalled that another neighbor has chopped down another tree right by my house!!  It was another big old conifer.  What is wrong with these people???  Did they not see in our neighborhood newsletter that we are trying to increase the neighborhood tree canopy?  And that even with all the efforts from Friends of Trees last year, our canopy cover went down?  It went down because of YOU, you heartless tree-chopping people!  Yes, Y-O-U, it is all YOUR fault!

Well, my only consolation is at least I just planted FOUR new trees for my birthday (two peach, two apricot), and Friends of Trees is helping me plant TWO more street trees next month.  And I've seen several other F.O.T. signs around my block and overall neighborhood.  So not everyone around here is a complete loser.

Our neighborhood is pretty green as it is, but it could certainly be greener, and certainly doesn't benefit from chopping down trees.  We're in the Northwest, things grow beautifully here; don't you want to fully take advantage of it??

I really need some more land.  My yard is getting packed and I can't keep up with replacing all the flora that's getting destroyed around me.  If you're reading this in internet-land and you have space for a tree, plant one for me, would you?

Okay, when I plant a tree on my property this spring, I will think of you! Do you want to know where I'm going to plant it on my property? Somewhere between my line of vision and the feedlot that the guy who owns the land that abuts on my property. I can stand on my back deck and say HEY to cows now.

It took me a couple of years to come to terms with it. So, each year I plant something or things to block my view or to block the view of people driving by. It's ugly what he's done out there. The cows aren't ugly, but the smelly silage bins are.

Not to mention the things he has built over there block the view of the prairie which was one of the reasons we bought this house.

But, the truth is, I am fully over being upset by it. I am planting things. I have adjusted. I am making my own home comfortable and enjoying my life on my terms.

Besides, how many people can say they live right next door to a feedlot!? LOL It's a quirky sort of thing, and hey, that part is okay. It is fodder for jokes. It is something to carry on about. It is something to watch and marvel at that a human being can DO this to a town and a neighborhood. But he did, and he has to live with people being upset with him. I've talked to people who really do seem angry about this. But we're over it.

What's the point in carrying anger, even over something as dramatic as a feedlot going in? NO point at all. I'm here to enjoy for the duration. I adjust rather than seethe.

OH, not saying you seethe or are angry. LOL Not at all! What I'm saying is that yeah, I understand neighbors doing things that are just wrong. It happened here big time. But what 'r ya gonna do? Gotta live and fix your own world as best we can, and get on with the amazing things life has to offer.

I enjoy your blog. I hope you don't mind my jumping in here to comment. I had to tell our story of having a "neighbor from hell". LOL

Yeah, good things to think about. I definitely do seethe for longer than I should over stupid stuff.

I'm so sorry to hear about the feedlot! Is it one of these evil factory farm things? I have an upcoming blog post about my upcoming shift in where my meat comes from . . . . more on that later. I'd probably be planning my move if it happened to me, but good for you for staying positive!

. . . but then again, where would this blog be if I didn't have my rants? I'd rather my rants be here than still on my mind. :)

Oh no, don't stop ranting. That's one of the values of blogs, gettin' it out! And it's interesting. No matter what, there's always going to be someone who reads something, anything and sees that their story is easier. And there's always going to be someone who reads something and sees part of their life is harder.

I think there's SO much value in sharing. And you write your story so well. It's a pleasure to read your blog.

I think if life had gone differently for us, we likely would have put the house up for sale, but my husband lost his job over three years ago, so that put a crimp in things. He was forced into early retirement and grateful we could do that.

When we were in a position of being chronically angry or bucking it up and living life, we decided to grab it and do whatever we could. Taking the attitude that we are trying to help the town by planting trees over time I think helped us a lot. That's what you are doing in your tree planting efforts, helping the community.

Believe me, it took a period of adjustment. I think one thing that just boggled my mind was the thought that someone could do this to other people.

It's not huge, and he moved part of it West of town, so the whole operation isn't outside our back door anymore. LOL But there's enough. It smells bad when the breeze blows this way, but it's not every single day.

It is one thing that has caused me to quit eating beef though. I see that, and know that there are bigger and most likely worse. I'm not going to support that industry.

Thanks for reading my note. I enjoy your blog and will be keeping up!
